Getting to know Eric

As a pastor during the pandemic, Eric noticed an increased need among his church members for counseling. Though he’s studied psychology and practiced pastoral counseling for decades, he felt compelled to deepen his training and skills to help individuals and couples seeking mental health and healing. Eric is a native of California with deep roots in the Lone Star State. He is a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a dog owner. He is an enneagram type 8 with a 9 wing (aka the momma bear!) and a Myers Briggs INFJ. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Texas A&M University, a Master in Divinity from Virginia Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Ministry from the School of Theology at the University of the South and his Master in Professional Counseling degree from Amberton University.

When he’s not working, Eric plays a little guitar, enjoys traveling, cycling, hiking, camping, and reading. Eric is happily married to his wife and they have two adolescent children. Cindy is passionate about empowering adults on their journey towards mental and emotional well-being. She creates a safe, supportive environment where individuals can explore their thoughts and emotions more deeply to gain greater self-awareness, experience personal healing and develop resilience. She firmly believes that everyone has the potential to rewrite their story and experience a life filled with renewed purpose and joy.

Style and Approach

Eric uses primarily cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), utilizing family systems when appropriate, has completed the level 1 training in Gottman methods of couples counseling, and is comfortable discussing the role of the unconscious and primary family and other salient past relationships play in one’s mental health (psychodynamic). As an ordained Episcopal priest, Eric is open to discussing questions around faith and spirituality from multiple perspectives. Eric is a lifelong Christian who greatly benefited from knowing God as a loving parent from an early age, especially through biological parent divorce and death. Eric hopes that all people will know and experience the unconditional love of God. God desires healing for all people in mind, body, and spirit. Eric continues to serve an Episcopal church as a priest associate.
