Getting to know Shuqueta

Based on the individual needs of the clients, Shuqueta utilizes many modalities including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Attachment Theory.  Shuqueta is an active member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

In her free time, she enjoys game nights with family and friends, traveling, and visiting different food trucks and restaurants (she is a huge foodie).  Shuqueta is a wife and proud mother of two boys.

Style and Approach

Shuqueta received her BA in Psychology from Argosy University in 2016 and her MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Abilene Christian University. Her approach to the therapeutic process encourages transparency, collaboration, and hopeful progression to maximize life experiences.  She believes that family attachments in life are significant and the lack of them creates situations that can be overwhelming and hard to navigate.  Her approach is to facilitate an environment filled with trust, humility, and free of judgment in order to explore emotions and vulnerabilities that lie below the surface.

Support Throuh Tough Times

As a native of Chicago, Illinois, Shuqueta moved to Texas with her mom and older sister when she was ten years old.  It was at that time when her mom’s battle with mental illness became more apparent, which drove Shuqueta’s initial interest in counseling. This interest soon developed into a passion to help individuals, couples, families, and marriages survive and thrive through their toughest moments.
